Carlos Baca-Flor Soberón

Born in May 14, 1865 in the port of Islay, Arequipa, he achieved fame and professional success internationally. He was was a Peruvian painter known mainly for his portraits. Carlos Baca died in France in 1941.

Boris Vallejo

Born in January 8, 1941, he emigrated to the United States in 1964. He works almost exclusively in the fantasy and erotica genres and his hyper-representational paintings have graced the covers of dozens of science fiction paperbacks.

José Sabogal

(March 19, 1888 – December 15, 1956). Jose Sabogal was a Peruvian painter and muralist, he promoted pre-Columbian culture and esthetics. Sabogal was founder and long-time leader of the so-called Peruvian School of painting.

Ricardo Palma

(Lima, February 7, 1833 - October 6, 1919), Ricardo Palma was a Peruvian author, scholar, and librarian. His most famous work is the Tradiciones Peruanas (short stories that mix history and fiction).

Ciro Alegría Bazán

(September 4, 1909 – February 17, 1967) Ciro Alegria was a Peruvian journalist, politician, and novelist. Born in Huamachuco District, he discovered a great deal about the native Peruvians, learning about their way of life. This understanding of how they were oppressed was the focus for his novels.

Mario Vargas LLosa

Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa was born in March 28, 1936. He is one of Latin America's most significant novelists. Many of Vargas Llosa's works are influenced by the writer's perception of Peruvian society and his own experiences as a native Peruvian. He ran for the Peruvian presidency in 1990 with the center-right (FREDEMO) coalition.

Famous People from Peru - Revolutionaries

Mariano Melgar

(Arequipa 1791-1815) Mariano Melgar was a poet, artist, and warrior for the cause of independence from Spain. He was one of the most most prominent romantic poets of Peru in the 19th century history, best known for his famous poetic love songs known as yaravíes.

Mateo Pumacahua

(September 21, 1740–March 17, 1815) Mateo Pumacahua was the cacique of Chinchero, brigadier of the militia of the Viceroyalty of Peru, and interim president of the Audiencia of Cuzco. He helped defeat the rebel army of Túpac Amaru II in 1781.

Túpac Amaru II

(1742 - 1781) José Gabriel Túpac Amaru was born in Tinta, Cusco and he had been honored by the Spanish authorities of Peru with the title of Marquis of Oropesa. Tupac Amaru was the leader of an indigenous uprising in 1780 against the Spanish in Peru, he was unsuccessful and died executed in Cusco.

Mauro Mina

(November 22, 1933 – June 1, 1993) Mauro Mina was a Peruvian Light Heavyweight boxer known as the "Bombardero de Chincha", remembered as the sexy best Peruvian boxer of the twentieth century. He died in 1993 with a professional record of 58 fights, of which he won 52 (25 by KO), Lost 3, and Drew 3.

Sofía Mulánovich

Sofía was born in Punta Hermosa, Lima 1983. She is a Peruvian surfer, the first one ever to win an Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour event. She is the first South American to ever win the World Title. Her ethnic roots are Croatian.

Hugo Sotil

(born 8 March 1949 in Ica)Hugo Sotil is a Peruvian former professional football player. Nicknamed El Cholo, he played as a striker or midfielder. Sotil was one of Peru's most recognized football players of the 1970s and part of the Peruvian squad that won the Copa América 1975.
