Marcahuasi Peru

Stone Forest - Angel David - Flickr

Marcahuasi is located less than 100 km. from the city of Lima. There is a small farming village called San Pedro de Casta. Marcahuasi Plateau is located about 5 km. above this picturesque village, It takes 4 hours of intense walk reaching more than 4,ooo meters high. Its rocks with different shapes of animals or people are an enigma.

This is a magical place filled with lots of energy and that is why is visited frequently despite the difficulty in reaching the top. The significance of the Stone Forest Park in the Andes of Peru was discovered by Daniel Ruzo in 1952. He describes a large number of image interpretations that seem the result of natural formations enhanced by alleged artificial adaptation to get the observed result.

It is a plateau measuring four square kilometers, filled with huge rocks that seem to have lives of their own, some measuring almost 25 meters high, shaped in the form of animal and human figures, and as Ruzo said, were the work of a long-lost civilization.

The main monument, the Monument of Humanity, has fourteen faces visible by the light of the sun and two visible only by the light of the moon. Ruzo’s photos demonstrate very clearly the many different faces of it. He claims that even though his work went on for a lengthy nine years that he has studied a mere ten percent of the figures.

Some popular theories are wind and water erosion done by nature, man made by pre-Inca civilizations making use of features of the terrain, made by the gods and/or by extra terrestrials. Anyway the monuments shown are truly amazing and the landscape is mystical and powerful.

This fantastic place is also a famous location for UFO sightings.
